The Nagarina...

Blissful Cruises
on the Maekong River

Nowhere are the sunsets more beautiful than from the Nagarina Riverboat out on the Maekong River. So are the lights of the town, particularly from the new Chedi at Wat Taat (a reconstruction of the Sunken Chedi). Our boat the Nagarina sails every evening at 5.00 pm to see either of these.

Normally it takes around one hour to sail up beyond the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge and back. And if we go the other way, down to the Sunken Chedi, it's also about the same time. As a result of erosion, this Chedi fell into the river in 1849, & in the dry season one corner can still be seen sticking out from the river, which local people decorate with flags.

The food on board The Nagarina presents Thai cooking with the true Thai taste. And as a very high percentage of the clientele on board are in fact Thai, there is no "Farang compromise"! Fish is a speciality with a number of different kinds of fish found the Maekong River featured. Also Pao likes to offer some of her unusual sweets.

Both Thai and foreign groups like to have banquets afloat, and so we are well equipped to put on sumptuous feasts for up to seventy people on board. Opposite is the birthday party Pao threw for my mother's 87th birthday. So if you fancy getting married adrift on the Maekong, we can certainly arrange it! Just send us an email, and we will talk to the registry office... even if you are both foreigners... we know how, we've done it before!

And on the raft where The Nagarina moors along side, we have a beautiful eating area for those who would prefer to eat, but not sail. Open from 10.00 am until 9.00 pm.

For the full treatment, order a cocktail from our bar and a meal from the restaurant! Once finished, you can watch a little live music in the Gaia Bar at the end of the raft.

Here is Hap our captain just getting on board, before steering the boat towards the setting sun. The ticket price is only 100 Baht, so anyone can enjoy the romance of seeing the sun slip away over the mighty Maekong river. Let's hope we have the chance take you too... very soon!
